The year I hiked the John Muir Trail, the snowpack was very low, so I didn’t carry an ice axe (not many hikers did that year). But if I had carried an ice axe, this is the one I would have wanted.
CAMP USA Corsa Nanotech Ice Axe
Weighing in at only 8.8 oz, it’s one of the lightest ice axes out there, perfect for both safety conscious and weight-minded thru-hikers.
You can get it in either 50 cm or 70 cm lengths for less than $150 from Backcountry.com.
