Kerastase Hair Coach Connects Your Hair to the Cloud

SYDN: Keratase Hair Coach

The Kerastase Hair Coach from Withings, a strange device that debuted at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas (which saw a whole mess of useless tech), gives its users a “holistic hair assessment.” When someone uses the Hair Coach to brush their hair, the device sends out information on the hair’s dryness, damage, and tangling. It also provides the brusher with deep details on the brushing experience like force & rhythm, gesture analysis, and (of course) stroke count.

Along with all the accelerometers and gyroscopes it needs to assess brushing, it also sports a microphone for some reason. Oh, and there’s an app that comes with it, naturally.

Some buzzword-rich marketing copy explains the device’s goal:

The resulting innovation is a brush that syncs seamlessly to your smartphone to provide valuable insights that can help revolutionize the home beauty routine.

Quite lofty. But really, you don’t need this thing. There are much better ways to spend $200.
